Clean Cut

competition entry for the Swiss embassy in London

collaboration with cortese/mazza

Two existing buildings in an uncomfortable relationship. One looks centuries old and the other is proudly modernistic, however they were both built in the seventies. An impossible circulation inside and a hodgepodge of mismatched levels.

Our strategy is simple – A surgical cut is made and a new thin volume is squeezed in between the two existing structures. A simple but smart volume, wishing to solve all the problems of the existing. 10% added allows to keep and reactivate 90% of the existing built matter. A clean cut that leaves us craving for a club sandwich.
