Selected competition for an emergency housing
Wallisellen
2024

For the emergency housing in Wallisellen, instead of the suggested new construction, we propose to keep the existing house, recognising its qualities and typological significance in an area where such houses are quickly replaced by anonymous housing blocks. Its brick and plaster structure is extended with an economic and light balloon-frame construction. The added volume allows us to open up the core of the house, thus creating a generous central space for the residents to meet. With its new hat, the house echoes another local typology, the barnhouses, where multiple functions and extensions are sheltered below one large roof.
