Identity of a metro line

2020 –
Our project for the identity of Lausanne’s future metro system m3 starts from its defining condition: a fully underground line. We work with excavation and underground construction techniques, exposing their tectonics instead of hiding them. New surfaces are added only where necessary, using durable, simple materials.
A continuous handrail runs through every station, forming a clear line on which all elements are attached. The furniture is made from folded steel sheets, each piece of a distinct geometry suited to its function.
Precisely chosen tiled surfaces reflect the light and structure the space, creating hierarchy and clear points of orientation, referring to the tradition of ceramics within metro stations.
